Venissa Santi at Camaradas El Barrio Bar and Restaurant

Venissa Santi at Camaradas El Barrio Bar and Restaurant

What do legendary radio show host and jazz expert, Bob Parlocha, Latin music icon Ruben Blades and renowned promoter, Dick Le Palm have in common? They unanimously agree that Cuban American singer-songwriter Venissa Santi is a name to watch. As Raul D’ Gama of Latin Jazz Network wrote, “She joins the likes of Billie Holiday, Abbey Lincoln, Sheila Jordan, Elis, Rosa, Celia, Flora Purim and fewer others than can be counted on the fingers of a hand – as the highest practitioners of the art of vocal music.”

Saturday, August 8th Venissa and her trio will perform at CAMARADAS EL BARRIO BAR & RESTAURANT, a self-described worker’s public house. True to it’s working-class roots, CAMARADAS celebrates the spirit of the unsung hero; factory workers & laborers whose work ethic, sweat, and ability make New York City one of the leading industrial and financial centers in the world. Camaradas has become a regular destination for those who are seeking quality entertainment in New York City. Joining Venissa will be pianist, Elio Villafranca, bassist, Yunior Terry and drummer, Francois Zayas.

On SATURDAY, AUGUST 22nd
UPTOWN LOUNGE AT HISTORIC MINTON’S PLAYHOUSE.

Minton’s is famous for its role in the development of modern jazz, also known as bebop, where in its jam sessions in the early 1940s, Thelonious Monk, Kenny Clarke, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, pioneered the new music. Minton’s thrived for three decades until its decline near the end of the 1960s, and its eventual closing in 1974. The newly remodeled club reopened its doors on May 19, 2006, under the name Uptown.Joining Venissa will be pianist Robert Rodriguez, bassist Yunior Terry and drummer Francois Zayas. We invite you to join Venissa as she celebrates the release of her debut recording, BIENVENIDA on Sunnyside Records.
